<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Slowly but surely I am continuing my progress with the
blocks of the Moogly CAL 2017. So far seven blocks have been published. I
nearly finished the fifth. It’s the first time I’m part of a CAL group and it
really is a lot of fun working on a project together with a bunch of other
people. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Next week we have a holiday – Passover – and I’ll have some
time off from work. It’s going to be all about meeting with the family and
having a good time. Hopefully, I’ll be able to catch up a little on my blocks.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Meanwhile, here are my four finished blocks. Not blocked yet, but still beautiful :)<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">For those of you who don't know, CAL means 'Crochet Along'. It works like this: at a regular point of time (could be every week or every two weeks or whatever is decided by the person who organizes the CAL) a pattern is published on the CAL organizer's blog (or other social media) with the pattern to the current step of the CAL for all to see and follow. There are many types of CALs - for blankets, for afghans, for mandalas, for a themed subject (Harry Potter, etc.), for amigurumi, well actually for every use of crochet you can find a CAL. It's a great way to learn some new techniques or to try on something new, and the best part is that it is often accompanied by a group of people, mostly on Facebook or Ravelry, so you can ask for advice on the pattern, the gauge, the colors or whatever you need help with. It's fun to share your work with other people who enjoys the same CAL as you at the same time.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I'm following <a href="http://www.mooglyblog.com/" target="_blank">Moogly</a> on her wonderful blog for a few years now, ever since I discovered the crochet world. It is an endless source of inspiration, tutorials and patterns. I have watched the CALs she organized over the years, but never really had the courage to join them. Lately I've been searching for new stitches and new projects and for a while been wanting to crochet a large enough blanket. I really feel like I'm ready for the next level and decided to join the <a href="http://www.mooglyblog.com/cal-2017-1/" target="_blank">Moogly CAL of 2017</a>. It is a CAL for a large blanket and is planned to have 24 squares of 12" (30 cm) each. The squares are published on Thursday every other week, so the pace is very easy and unstressed, which is exactly what I need :)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So far three blocks were published in the Moogly CAL 2017. I decided to join the CAL after the second block was already published and it took me a lot of time to decide on the color scheme for the blanket. When I finally decided on one, I went to my local yarn shop to get the yarn and guess what? That's right - they didn't have all the colors I wanted, so I had to improvise according to what they had. It turned out OK and I really love the colors I chose. By now I finished only the first block and half of the second block, but I'm hoping to catch up with the third one throughout the following week.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I am very happy to report about a project that I recently completed. It's a C2C crochet baby blanket that I started somewhere around November. My sister-in-law was pregnant with my soon-to-be new niece, so I was very keen on making something for her.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">C2C crochet baby blanket - I LOVE the colors</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">At around that time, I came across the C2C crochet blankets on Pinterest, and I just had to give it a shot. And so I went to buy plenty of yarn and began to master the C2C technique. It is not a difficult technique once you get started. I used an excellent YouTube video that you can find <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQGA15cIvxQ" target="_blank">here</a> (by Crochet Lovers) that really got me started on the right foot. This blanket is growing quite rapidly, so it is fulfilling and fun to work on.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I tried to keep my design quite simple because it was my first C2C blanket, but also because I wanted to keep it calm because it's for a baby. I also didn't want it to be too pink, so I ended up with three different shades of purple. I bought 100g skeins of acrylic wool, and it took about 1.5 skeins of the lavender, 2 skeins of the dark purple and almost 4 skeins of the lighter purple to make the blanket.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Three shades of purple - simple design for the C2C crochet baby blanket</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I also wanted to do a rectangle blanket rather than a square one. I think it will better serve the baby and for a longer time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I finished the blanket with a scalloped border using <a href="http://storerboughtcreations.weebly.com/blog/how-to-put-a-border-on-a-c2c" target="_blank">Storer Bought Creation's tutorial</a>, which was very easy to use.</span><br />

</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The hardest part was weaving in the ends. Not because of its difficulty, but because of the amount of ends and the annoying kind of work, but I did it on the bus on my way to and from work, and sometimes even in the car when waiting in traffic. I was very dedicated to the mission :)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The blanket is around 100 cm wide and nearly 130 cm long, so it's big enough also to use as a crib blanket.</span><br />

It's not because I haven't been working on things. Quite the opposite, actually. I started a new job and it took me a while to get adjusted to the new conditions. Going from being a full time mom for three years to working a full time job, having a nanny picking up my kids and generally speaking having a LOT less time, was so overwhelming. But six months after, I began to fill the itch of crafting again and so I've been trying to find time for creating here and there, whenever I can, and little by little I feel confident with the thought of writing here without disappointing my audience with the long pauses that might yet to come between the posts, because I now feel that this blog is really from myself to myself as a way to document my work. I hope you all still joiin me in my prolonged journey.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">After this long introduction, I will not keep you from checking out my progress in my rainbow crochet blanket. I'm proud to say that all the squares are joined together and I'm now working on the border of the blanket. Here are some picture for you to enjoy.</span><br />

First I started with building my color scheme, which I change a couple of times and ended up with this combination:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6We1_wblMWo/VsA5HgMvXAI/AAAAAAAABEo/3dYjdbBFQuA/s1600/20160121_121513.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6We1_wblMWo/VsA5HgMvXAI/AAAAAAAABEo/3dYjdbBFQuA/s640/20160121_121513.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Final Squares Combinations for my Crochet Rainbow Blanket</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I took my time making the squares because I was busy with other projects all at the same time. But three weeks ago I had almost all my squares done and ready to be joined together.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BrWkwvJ8Ex0/VsA4-59sIZI/AAAAAAAABEg/GpjkdsbSzOk/s1600/20160121_121344.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BrWkwvJ8Ex0/VsA4-59sIZI/AAAAAAAABEg/GpjkdsbSzOk/s640/20160121_121344.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Had only four more squares to finish for my Crochet Rainbow Blanket</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Iuyn5TlPPo8/VsA47Jf-jDI/AAAAAAAABEc/RE4LoaXJpF0/s1600/20160121_121013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Iuyn5TlPPo8/VsA47Jf-jDI/AAAAAAAABEc/RE4LoaXJpF0/s640/20160121_121013.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Eleven piles of squares for my Crochet Rainbow Blanket</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The next step was to set all the squares in their final arrangement and make sure that everything looks good and nothing is missing. So I laid all the squares on the floor and the beautiful colors really popped out. It made me so happy :)<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

So that was about three weeks ago, and in the last week or so I've been vigorously joining the squares. Yesterday I finished joining the third row out of ten and I'm so happy with the way it's turning out.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiISBaJnAnj7wNatKA-w0JFU5QBKOCIHtAEY5v0w0Kcg5dMioOe9oCAWX8IkkP3YtP0Xs_l8OQ_oADMY9dCbm6OgvVN1NUJxBWBVSJGsI4SLVWgg6VRra59mAPECrGEHTarg2Pm1j-bedYT/s1600/Heart+Cross+Stitch+Collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiISBaJnAnj7wNatKA-w0JFU5QBKOCIHtAEY5v0w0Kcg5dMioOe9oCAWX8IkkP3YtP0Xs_l8OQ_oADMY9dCbm6OgvVN1NUJxBWBVSJGsI4SLVWgg6VRra59mAPECrGEHTarg2Pm1j-bedYT/s640/Heart+Cross+Stitch+Collage.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've never tried cross stitching before, but after finding a grey checkers fabric in my stash, and given the upcoming Valentine's Day, I just knew I had to try making a cross stitch heart. As it happens, my Internet connection didn't work at that time and since I have a problem with delayed gratification, I ended up having to make my own pattern. It turned out to be quite easy, so I decided to make a tutorial for all of you who wants to try it, but don't know where to start.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ready?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here we go:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1. Start by measuring your squares (height and width) so you'll know how big is the area your working on. Mark the area on a checkered piece of paper. If you plan to use a big piece of fabric you can skip this step.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2. Find the center of your working area and mark a cross about 1/3 from the bottom. This is the bottom of you heart shape pattern. You'll be working from this point up. The important thing in this method is to mark the crosses on both sides of the square from the previous row and not directly on top of it. So, move one row up and mark two crosses on both sides of the cross you just marked as the bottom of the heart, like so:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgiA4JrVES3oYkSH5S0US4P-yIKIMPuwGFgA3rSiYtTq-3-PJCHds6vwaJTkIHy42ZHXy6ONfbRgmaoB61IEvQVWJLWvhXOlNIXAjm-g916xYHr6VioxFnJq0jY81hgUkMyyNA9FFC1HkO/s1600/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+1a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgiA4JrVES3oYkSH5S0US4P-yIKIMPuwGFgA3rSiYtTq-3-PJCHds6vwaJTkIHy42ZHXy6ONfbRgmaoB61IEvQVWJLWvhXOlNIXAjm-g916xYHr6VioxFnJq0jY81hgUkMyyNA9FFC1HkO/s640/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+1a.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3. Continue marking crosses row after row until you reach your desired height. This should be at around the middle of your working area. Note that the number of crosses will grow by one in each row, and you get a diagonal line on each side of the heart bottom part, like so:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiggwDQSdpeq6Xd9T_SqDKlDijb3jgsZ3JaG52bou_WyXQMBx-2DYb0TqDNjVfq0_H2v7OzCQHGnY3Awd-ScQoCMgxMrcFBbHUDnPuaghBnY6_ZB89b53I5l-7oQNPKhAXYkr0n6JVjfqZ8/s1600/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiggwDQSdpeq6Xd9T_SqDKlDijb3jgsZ3JaG52bou_WyXQMBx-2DYb0TqDNjVfq0_H2v7OzCQHGnY3Awd-ScQoCMgxMrcFBbHUDnPuaghBnY6_ZB89b53I5l-7oQNPKhAXYkr0n6JVjfqZ8/s640/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
4. Now you want to build the heart's height, so you should keep the rows in the same length. Here I made three more rows, and you can see that the first and third rows are of the same length and the middle one is not exceeding their length:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoW9AXw_XSTVdCGQrSJngBIlia7FvUbBZB5Wn6RYswJtQoKEBbWZvYW79Gb1uvWc-nvijQW_Vj-j-aXuPlw_XmZxr3Yas6lDFDCScrKNYHf81w1iNy7sLnMr7-RZT1pArLvDQmDygy9oes/s1600/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoW9AXw_XSTVdCGQrSJngBIlia7FvUbBZB5Wn6RYswJtQoKEBbWZvYW79Gb1uvWc-nvijQW_Vj-j-aXuPlw_XmZxr3Yas6lDFDCScrKNYHf81w1iNy7sLnMr7-RZT1pArLvDQmDygy9oes/s640/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
5. When you're satisfied with your heart's height, find the cross that is exactly over the one at the bottom of the heart (see picture below). If you can't find one, you should make another row or look at the lower row.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHN3cDVxcVSS4B4viRsRBtvnXjaQ-p9bIe3EYVy7TaPmwlvnhnkk6qYH6DT52jp1O6X3dfu5EaI4bvniMvhrbq3PHZcj96lS7_Z9SFj6joAzekwI2_11iPpsygZSBOXxvXBI5GgCBsZQW3/s1600/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+3a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHN3cDVxcVSS4B4viRsRBtvnXjaQ-p9bIe3EYVy7TaPmwlvnhnkk6qYH6DT52jp1O6X3dfu5EaI4bvniMvhrbq3PHZcj96lS7_Z9SFj6joAzekwI2_11iPpsygZSBOXxvXBI5GgCBsZQW3/s640/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+3a.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
6. Now you're ready to start finishing the heart with it's two half circles on each side. This means that from this point on you will not mark any more crosses in the area between both diagonal lines of the cross you marked. See picture below.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdUIHXP7OXqpecUBO-DWyU3Bs84-qhbOhwRpQryIpjqkO4AnMzurfr8eXKuy-6jlQQo1Jj0KICEOn1eoxdzLahBouX9XIEkFRtXMVfCpqPG_2m2uGkTNNnPnktfdS5OglEuNCaNo8Yxz6a/s1600/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+3c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdUIHXP7OXqpecUBO-DWyU3Bs84-qhbOhwRpQryIpjqkO4AnMzurfr8eXKuy-6jlQQo1Jj0KICEOn1eoxdzLahBouX9XIEkFRtXMVfCpqPG_2m2uGkTNNnPnktfdS5OglEuNCaNo8Yxz6a/s640/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+3c.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
7. On your next row, start decreasing the length of the row on each end, like the picture below. Continue with your rows until you only have two crosses on each side of the heart.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1Y25JGYkZyjCTaIq2Vev9pYVbOA4rePu6nEdMEQ_K7GJHICM8ASRz5NgeDcOSkfzuEOHf45ClFjoPcZFyYU1s_zIAM5JDgDtT8inq0BhuvdJJ0_ZrFbf58mfrvu8615reKSICsLXZIg8C/s1600/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1Y25JGYkZyjCTaIq2Vev9pYVbOA4rePu6nEdMEQ_K7GJHICM8ASRz5NgeDcOSkfzuEOHf45ClFjoPcZFyYU1s_zIAM5JDgDtT8inq0BhuvdJJ0_ZrFbf58mfrvu8615reKSICsLXZIg8C/s640/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That's it. This heart is done!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can change the amount of rows at the bottom of the heart, which will effect it's width, and with the amount of rows in the middle of the heart (the height). Just try it out and play with it until you get the heart that suits you best.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is how your heart will look like if you make fewer rows in the height of the heart (step 5):</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio5gpUW6JMaQjjD_60TZGmh0hk6M2PozsyEaKBLGN7j2Pf-FpGoe68Jy2asT8wa9qXuGv2OUsKj6-jrD3wVTTAE6DLncbkXV5WOk72Y4HwZGmBykVa7Uh_LhyphenhyphenT3p_MRyTzi-ixGalwVoaC/s1600/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio5gpUW6JMaQjjD_60TZGmh0hk6M2PozsyEaKBLGN7j2Pf-FpGoe68Jy2asT8wa9qXuGv2OUsKj6-jrD3wVTTAE6DLncbkXV5WOk72Y4HwZGmBykVa7Uh_LhyphenhyphenT3p_MRyTzi-ixGalwVoaC/s640/CrossStitch+Heart+Pattern+How+to+4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now go ahead and copy your pattern to your fabric to make a beautiful heart using the cross stitch technique.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can use this technique to make a pattern for any kind of shape, even letters and numbers.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here are a few of mine:</div>

Lately I've been crocheting a lot of squares for my rainbow blanket (using <a href="http://www.mooglyblog.com/magic-rainbow-baby-blanket/" target="_blank">Moogly's pattern</a>). I'm almost done making all the squares and soon I'll start joining them together. I'll be posting a different post about my progress there, but since I was so occupied with the crochet and given the ammount of sqaures needed to be done (88, but who's counting), I wanted a little project that will clear my mind. I knew it had to be a sewing project because sewing is usually quicker than crocheting and I needed to start and finish something in two hours max.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Now, this is the time to let you all in on a little secret. In my little studio I have a box lying in the corner with many many pieces of faux swade in any kind of color you can imagine, and for a long period of time I've been wanting to do something with them. So, I managed to combine my urge for a sewing project and my not-so-little box of faux swade pieces, and designed a zipper pouch with a faux swade bottom. Since the faux swade has a sophisticated look and feel, I combined it with a textured fabric in cream to keep the design cool and elegant. I like my pouches to be fully lined. I think it gives the pouch a more complete effect, so I lined the pouch with a neutral crem cotton. I used a zipper in a matching color to finish off the look and I was done.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Fully Lined</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I have now plenty of ideas for color and fabric combinations and will soon start making other pouches and bags. Hope I'll have time to finish off my rainbow blanket :)<br />

A few weeks ago I re-arranged my wardrobe, as I always do when the seasons change. During the re-arrangement, I stumbled across a few pairs of Jeans that I got from my mom's wardrobe. They've been in my closet for years, but I never wore them because they're too big for me and they ended up just sitting there, being moved from one shelf to another. This time I decided to take them out and do something with them. I thought that it's a shame that they take up space in the closet and I don't use them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic7pMe2Yb_zxEyg81tcj9Ij5lpJNZLpqjALGPT4ytXlu88cMfiLaRvV2tUYn-eJcIr28xevtg7HqYZXVZYND5BdPCzZXy3nEkyTYJY05SVvloVHFOj2bTilz206eWccsKblQOn2Her2_Eu/s1600/IMG_7604.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic7pMe2Yb_zxEyg81tcj9Ij5lpJNZLpqjALGPT4ytXlu88cMfiLaRvV2tUYn-eJcIr28xevtg7HqYZXVZYND5BdPCzZXy3nEkyTYJY05SVvloVHFOj2bTilz206eWccsKblQOn2Her2_Eu/s640/IMG_7604.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
My original thought was to narrow them down so they will fit me, but last week I found <a href="http://www.makeit-loveit.com/" target="_blank">Ashley</a>'s tutorial on <a href="http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2015/07/diy-turn-jean-pants-into-a-jean-skirt.html" target="_blank">how to make a pair of Jeans into a skirt</a> and decided this is what I'm going to do. In her tutorial, Ashley is making a skirt for her daughter but I figured that the same method can be applied to grown-ups as well, and I was right :) </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I followed Ashley's tutorial step-by-step and ended up with a new Jeans skirt for myself. I'm so proud of it and can't wait to wear it. What do you think?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you too have unused pair of Jeans in your closet, I encourage you to try this yourself. It's really easy and very satisfying, plus you'll get a brand new skirt out of it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Good Luck!!<br />

They are now turned into gorgeous and colorful bookmarks.<br />
<br />
Here is a bunch of bookmarks in Blues and Greens:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V2zoCO9E1I0/VjI3pScfvII/AAAAAAAAA54/a7YhAoiY-yU/s1600/IMG_7532.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V2zoCO9E1I0/VjI3pScfvII/AAAAAAAAA54/a7YhAoiY-yU/s640/IMG_7532.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Blue and Green shades of Upcycled Nespresso Bookmarks</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
And another bunch in Orange, Red, Yellow, Pink and Purple:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vsxDRwp3gRA/VjI5Xj-mHTI/AAAAAAAAA68/vvkqY6NuTOc/s1600/IMG_7558.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vsxDRwp3gRA/VjI5Xj-mHTI/AAAAAAAAA68/vvkqY6NuTOc/s640/IMG_7558.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Orange, Red, Yellow, Pink and Purple Upcycled Nespresso Bookmarks</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Each bookmark is made from a crochet circle, a Nespresso capsule and a cute decoration. Some of them have a little button, some have a flower cabochon and two have a decoration made from another capsule.<br />
<br />
I like using the Nespresso capsules in my designs because they are so colorful and they're texture adds an interesting element to the items, in this case the bookmarks, They really sparkle as the they catch the light. The Nespresso capsules are also very easy and fun to work with, and off course there's the extra value of recycling, which is always a nice bonus.<br />
<br />
So, here are the bookmarks, in pairs, for you to enjoy:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yellow/Black & Yellow/Light Purple/Pink</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
This is how the bookmarks look from behind:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HEWrnhY0WME/VjI55zs7BdI/AAAAAAAAA7M/7PrS8fU7poI/s1600/IMG_7563.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HEWrnhY0WME/VjI55zs7BdI/AAAAAAAAA7M/7PrS8fU7poI/s640/IMG_7563.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Back side of bookmarks</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The best thing about them is that they are completely customizable. The crochet circle, the Nespresso capsule and the decoration all can be done in whatever color you prefer and that means that you can make yourself a unique one of a kind bookmark.<br />
<br />
These beauties are now <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/ShimraDesigns?section_id=18031072&ref=shopsection_leftnav_7" target="_blank">available </a>at my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/ShimraDesigns" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a> and are a great gift for all your loved ones, your friends and family, and even your teachers. </tbody></table>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
I made them according to <a href="http://www.mooglyblog.com/magic-rainbow-baby-blanket/" target="_blank">Moogly's Rainbow Blanket Instructions</a>.<br />
<br />
The only different thing in my design is that while Moogly's blanket is a square, mine is designed to be a rectangle, so I made twelve different squares instead of Moogly's eight.<br />
Also, her squares are bigger then mine. I used 100% cotton yarn and a 3 mm hook while her yarn is thicker and she used a 5 mm hook. This also means that I will have to do much more squares from each color to have a big enough blanket.<br />
<br />
As long as it keeps me busy :)<br />
<br />
I will update on my progress as the blanket progresses.<br />

One of the very first items I made when I first started crocheting was a little granny square pillow cover. This was at a time when I was fed up with the little projects that I experimented in while learning the different stitches and techniques. I felt like making something meaningful that I could show everyone and use everyday. Always practical...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At the same time I came across the famous granny square that has so many variations that even today I find myself amazed by it's beauty and versatility. I decided to start making squares in an attempt to make a blanket. After a few sqaures I realized that the squares are too small and that I would have to make a lot, A LOT, of squares for a decent size blanket, so I improvized and turned them into a pillow cover.</div>

I joined the squares together and made a nice border using sc around all of them. Then I crocheted the back of the pillow, using dc stitches, and made two pieces that overlap. I left four holes for buttons and stitched the cover all around using whip stitch. I used vintage buttons from my own stash. The buttons are shiny and have a special texture. I think they give the back side an interesting look.</div>

It turned out quite small. It's almost a sqaure (25 cm by 24 cm), and since I don't have a pillow this size, I had to sew one from scratch. This wasn't the only project I was working on, and the sewing of the inner pillow was put aside for when I'll have more time, which obviously never happened until yesterday. I organized my little studio in the beginning of the week, found the cover and decided to finish this project once and for all. Yesterday I made the time and sewed the pillow (only took about 15 minutes, including stuffing it) and now I have this beautiful little pillow on my sofa.</div>

As you can see the flap of the purse has a lace-like pattern, and it adds a nice texture to the purse. It closes with a Vintage Orange Button from my private stash.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
As I originally planned, I didn't make a long shoulder strap. Instead I added a short handle and made it into a wristlet.<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This wristlet can be used as en evening wristlet or an everyday wristlet. It's quite roomy and can hold many things, like your keys, phone and credit card. </div>

As promised, I also added lining with matching fabric which I hand sewed to the purse. As I thought it helped in making the wristlet more durable. It also helps to keep your things inside the purse, so you don't have to worry about losing anything.</div>

<br />
I really enjoy making these fabric covers for A5 notebooks, so I made another one :)<br />
I sewed this one with one of my most favourite fabrics in my stash. It is 100% Cotton in Blue and Orange and has the nicest decorated circles you can imagine.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IyQHN5AktaQ/VfVYV_vfPzI/AAAAAAAAA1Q/G_KfRoiTfOU/s1600/IMG_7400.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IyQHN5AktaQ/VfVYV_vfPzI/AAAAAAAAA1Q/G_KfRoiTfOU/s640/IMG_7400.JPG" width="480" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Fabric Covered Notebook - Back Side</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
It is, again, fully lined with off-white cotton fabric and, again, has a bookmark made from a Blue satin ribbon.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Fully Lined with a Satin Ribbon Bookmark</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8OSfg9ffbKM/VfVZKWxU1NI/AAAAAAAAA1g/cdQvEBFvQ4s/s1600/IMG_7404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8OSfg9ffbKM/VfVZKWxU1NI/AAAAAAAAA1g/cdQvEBFvQ4s/s640/IMG_7404.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Go ahead and write whatever is on your mind</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
You can find it in my shop along with <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/ShimraDesigns?section_id=16869493&ref=shopsection_leftnav_2" target="_blank">all the other fabric covers for notebooks</a>.<br />

I'm always looking for the perfect bag to fit my needs. That's why I often end up making my own :)<br />
<br />
<div>
My daughter is too young to have a real need for a purse (she's 7 years old), but also likes them and uses them to keep her little things in.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Recently I made her a little crochet purse. It is very cute and light and made from 100% cotton yarn in Marsala color, which makes it trendy too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<br /></div>
<div>
I used dc stitches with the smallest hook size recommended for this yarn (hook no 3.0) because I wanted to keep my "fabric" tight and close. This is very critical when making a purse or a bag because you don't want your things falling out. I like the texture that the dc stitches are forming.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Back of the Purse: Nice Texture Using dc Stitches</td></tr>

<br />
For the handle I made a cord using the lobster stitch. I used this <a href="http://makemydaycreative.com/2013/08/12/lobster-cord-bracelets/" target="_blank">wonderful photo tutorial</a>.<br />
The handle is attached to the purse body with two clasps. You can detach the handle and then you can use the purse inside a bigger handbag. How convenient!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Detachable Lobster Stitch Handle</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I liked it so much that I immediately went and made another one for myself, only in gold color :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
All that it's missing is a little handle which I plan to make as a wristlet handle, rather than the long shoulder handle I used on my daughter's purse. I also think that maybe I'll line mine to add a little more body to it and make it a little more sturdy and durable. Will update as soon as it's done.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They are quite small because they are meant to be little girl's purses, but I can also use it as a clutch to hold my keys and phone while I go out to run some errands.</div>

I'm satisfied :)<br />
<br />
I had in my shop a few fabric covered notebooks, but since the summer vacation will be over soon and school is just around the corner I wanted to add more fabric covers so you can have more to choose from.<br />
<br />
This is my red, white and blue stars linen fabric notebook cover:<br />

In the time passed since I published my <a href="http://shimradesigns.blogspot.co.il/2015/03/done-vasarely-crochet-bag.html" target="_blank">Vasarely Bag</a> I've been asked about the pattern a number of times. The answer, like most things in life, divides into three: a triangle, a diamond and a 3D cube.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In order to make the Vasarely 3D crochet cube that you see in my <a href="http://shimradesigns.blogspot.co.il/2015/03/done-vasarely-crochet-bag.html" target="_blank">Vasarely bag</a>, you need to have three crochet diamonds. In order to make a crochet diamond you need to know how to make a crochet triangle, and that's why I decided to make this tutorial.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For the purpose of the tutorial I used cotton yarn and a 3 mm hook, but you can use whatever yarn you have available and a hook that match your yarn. The only thing that will be different is the finished size of your triangle. If you'll use a thicker yarn and a 5 mm hook, your triangle will be bigger than mine. The gauge is also not important, as long as your crochet work is consistent and you keep the same tension through out the work. This tutorial will show you how to make a triangle using single crochet stitches. Note that you can use the same pattern to make a triangle using double crochet stitches. Simply replace sc with dc everywhere in the pattern.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<u>Abbreviations for this tutorial</u>:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
ch = chain</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
st = stitch</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
sl st = slip stitch</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
sc = single crochet</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>sc2tog = see further in the tutorial for a special mini tutorial on this stitch</b></div>

Once you have enough cubes you can make yourself whatever you wish, like my <a href="http://shimradesigns.blogspot.co.il/2015/03/done-vasarely-crochet-bag.html" target="_blank">Vasarely Bag</a>, a blanket (you can find plenty of inspiration on the Internet) or whatever you can think of.</div>

<div>
My old one was my mother's. It was a great sewing machine and I had it since my mother passed away. I used it for quite a lot of projects including a few quilts, blankets, dresses for my daughter and even an occasional hem mending :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
About a year ago, a plastic strip that was responsible for changing the machine between the different stitches, broke. I took it to a technician that said that he has no spare parts for this type of strip so he improvised. Since you can setup a zigzag stitch to have no width at all, which means that it's basically a straight line stitch, he got the machine to the position of the zigzag stitch and secured it in place. This means that I could only use the straight line and the zigzag stitches instead of the 25 different stitches on the machine. I didn't mind much because these are truly the most important and frequently used stitches, and from a sentimental point of view I was also happy to keep working on my mother's machine.</div>
<div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div>
On the first sewing attempt after the visit to the technician, I found out that I have a bigger problem on my hands. The machine would only go backwards. I tried fixing it by myself using a few tips I read online but with no<span style="background-color: white;"> success. Since I had to fix a hem on some new trousers, I ended up doing the hem backwords.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;">After some thought, and careful consideration I decided not to fix the old machine but to buy a new one. The fixing cost verses the price of a new one just left me without any doubts. I decided to buy the Singer Quantum 9600 and so far I'm very pleased. I haven't had much chance to really work on it yet, but I have played with it and it's gazillion stitches as soon as it arrived about two weeks ago. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;">And now that I have my new machine ready, I must go on with my sewing projects, one by one:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;">1. Finishing off the binding of <a href="http://shimradesigns.blogspot.co.il/2015/03/how-i-ended-up-making-baby-quilt-by-hand.html" target="_blank">the baby quilt I started a while back</a>.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;">2. Making much more of my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/ShimraDesigns?section_id=16869493&ref=shopsection_leftnav_2" target="_blank">fabric covered notebooks</a>.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;">3. Making <a href="http://www.sewinginnomansland.com/2012/05/08/7-days-a-week-skirt/" target="_blank">some skirts</a> for my daughter.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;">4. <a href="http://www.modhomeec.com/2011/11/16/perfectly-upholstered-round-stool-top/" target="_blank">Reupholstering</a> our piano stool.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;">Not to mention hamming a pair of pants, finally making curtains in the kids' bedrooms, and trying other projects that I set aside for this day to come.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;">How about you? </span><span style="background-color: white;">What type of sewing machine do you use? </span><span style="background-color: white;">What are you working on now?</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;">I'd love to hear about it.</span></div>

So, let me proudly present my very first post in the new "What's on my desk" series:</div>

The light green version is finished and you can find it in my shop, right <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/237569310/light-green-crochet-frame-coin-purse?ref=shop_home_active_8" target="_blank">here</a>. There's also a Fuchsia version in my shop.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2. A new idea for bookmark that I'm trying out - Did these two samples and I'm working on a tutorial for you. Wait for it!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3. I made these nice gold & raspberry mandalas with an initial idea to turn them into smaller coin purses than the flowery ones in no. 1, but I think they're two small, so I'll have to find another way of using both the mandalas and the frame. Thinking, thinking... Maybe you have an idea??</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Bulky Crochet Bowl in Dark Grey and Purple Ribbon</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I made this bowl a while ago from bulky acrylic yarn in dark grey. It has a lovely texture because of the FPTC (front post double crochet) that I used all around it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At first, it was just plain and grey (without the ribbon) and I was very happy with it the way it was, but after a while I got bored with it and wanted to add a splash of color to it. I didn't have other colors of the same exact kind of yarn I used (I did have that same particular yarn in light grey but I wanted to add COLOR), but I had an idea that will add not only color but also texture. I searched in my ribbon stash and found a beautiful rich purple satin ribbon and decided to thread it through all around the FPTC stitches. I tied up the loose ends with a little bow knot, ET VOILA! A splash of color in less than a minute.<br />
<br />
Isn't that much better??</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvXnd1fslBdsVBdUCHn-79ZKzhO5y-BwEofkBlGhtbYWr1KVSRHZMN-K1XWbAJMWWBlNTb1OITVfr2nh68woowsU-mpsesEKSEhfS6tloi7xLNnQsUSkInNoacQrFoMK2E5RqMFE104nYo/s1600/20150501_163040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvXnd1fslBdsVBdUCHn-79ZKzhO5y-BwEofkBlGhtbYWr1KVSRHZMN-K1XWbAJMWWBlNTb1OITVfr2nh68woowsU-mpsesEKSEhfS6tloi7xLNnQsUSkInNoacQrFoMK2E5RqMFE104nYo/s640/20150501_163040.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: 12.8000001907349px;">A little splash of color using a purple ribbon</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<u>And now for the fun part that you've all been waiting for - the pattern:</u></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<u><br /></u></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This bowl is really easy to make, and other than the FPTC stitch which is not a very common one (although it's not difficult at all, I assure you), it's a very straight forward pattern.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you want to do the bowl that I did, you'll need bulky yarn. Mine was 100% Acrylic and called for 7-8 mm crochet hook, but I found it too stiff so I used 10 mm hook. It doesn't really matter, it will just change the dimensions a bit. I also don't have an accurate gauge. If this was a sweater it would have been important but since it's just a bowl I don't see the point in sticking to a specific gauge, as long as your crochet stitches are consistent throughout your work.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well, back to the pattern -</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
These are the stitches you'll need to know in order to make the bowl: dc (double crochet), fptc (click <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv-xgDvRoDY" target="_blank">here</a> for an excellent video), sl st to join each round.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Round 1: Ch 1, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 11 dc into 4th ch from hook, join with sl st into the 3rd chain that makes the 1st dc (12 st).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc into same st, 2 dc into next st and each st around, join with sl st (24 st).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Round 3: Repeat Round 2 (48 st).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Round 4: Ch 3, dc into same st, dc into next 3 st, *2 dc into next st and dc into next 3 st*. Repeat between * to end of round and join with sl st (60 st).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Round 5: Ch 3, fptc around same st, *dc into next st, fptc into next st*. Repeat between * to end of round and join with sl st (30 dc and 30 fptc).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Round 6: Sl st into next st, ch 3, fptc around first dc from previous round, *dc into fptc from previous round, fptc around next st*. Repeat between * to end and join with sl st.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Round 7: Repeat round 6 until you reach your desired height( I did 4 rounds in total).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Final Round: Finish with a round of sc into each st and join with sl st.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And you're done... Take a step back and admire your work!!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmPHun95oDMzOgTR77Xu09MLfQfiyOi_uSv2uaKFbunxuN6BNwR6TUL0C89Q4A2-SSZSASzjLdiudWVwfXbOGDqh8gGIxIv2jPB874AQ4ffm9s7tR7IF1QRKs6dJg7QmizXJ6bSlTgCm-k/s1600/20150501_162950.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmPHun95oDMzOgTR77Xu09MLfQfiyOi_uSv2uaKFbunxuN6BNwR6TUL0C89Q4A2-SSZSASzjLdiudWVwfXbOGDqh8gGIxIv2jPB874AQ4ffm9s7tR7IF1QRKs6dJg7QmizXJ6bSlTgCm-k/s640/20150501_162950.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Can you see the texture??</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The texture of the fptc is interesting enough, but if you want you can make it with one or all of the following variations:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1. Add a satin ribbon, as I explained in the first part of the post.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2. If you don't have a ribbon, you can also use a different color of yarn and thread it around as if it was a ribbon. You may have to use a few strands, but it can be very interesting.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3. Change the yarn color after a few rounds to make an interesting and colorful bowl.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
4. Add embellishment, like buttons, pins, crochet flower, or whatever you can think of to make your bowl unique.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So... what are you waiting for? Take out your yarn and try it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can have a bowl in no time at all - I should make it into a slogan :)<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
As you can see I'm working on something new. A ripple blanket for a baby that is due in about two months. The pattern is from <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/neat-ripple-pattern.html" target="_blank">Attic24</a> and I love it. It's flowing and easy to follow and the photographed tutorial is absolutely wonderful.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Everything went well until I got to the off-white yarn. I started this part not with a new skein of yarn, but from a half used skein I had lying around (I mean, off-white color is always lying around in my studio, it's so useful!). And so, in the middle of my 6th row I noticed that I was going to run out of yarn. Lucky for me, I didn't have a problem with getting new skeins, because I have plenty of those, but I wasn't sure about the right way to introduce the new yarn into the work.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since this problem occurred in the middle of the row I was scared of having to tie threads together in a bulky way and also was worried I'll have to weave the ends at such a visible location. I even considered ripping out the entire row until the beginning and attaching the new skein to the edge of the blanket. Lucky for me, I didn't!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">

Almost out of yarn in the middle of work</div>
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In my despair I turned for help to good old "Uncle Google" and in a blink of an eye found an excellent tutorial on how to introduce a new ball of yarn (same color or different one) in the middle of the work. You can find it over at <a href="http://www.eweewe.com/blog/2014/2/10/penpal-hat-kal-part-2?rq=join" target="_blank">eweewe</a> yarns (you'll need to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the post, but it's there).<br />
<br />
Now, take a look at my beautiful and neat solution:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AEXJQjSQkEM/VT4zxC0U7kI/AAAAAAAAAhY/DZ_Jt2lubQE/s1600/IMG_6721.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AEXJQjSQkEM/VT4zxC0U7kI/AAAAAAAAAhY/DZ_Jt2lubQE/s640/IMG_6721.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Can you see that tiny little knot? Almost invisible!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-23udHpnP5LU/VT4zzoxeogI/AAAAAAAAAhg/P5RNglQ7ypQ/s1600/IMG_6723.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-23udHpnP5LU/VT4zzoxeogI/AAAAAAAAAhg/P5RNglQ7ypQ/s640/IMG_6723.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A close up of the tiny little knot that saved my half done row.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
See how tiny that little know is? It's almost invisible. Now I'm ready to continue working with my new skein.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3h3HiFiT7TA/VT4z2U-NBDI/AAAAAAAAAho/JGE5t3GIRiY/s1600/IMG_6724.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3h3HiFiT7TA/VT4z2U-NBDI/AAAAAAAAAho/JGE5t3GIRiY/s640/IMG_6724.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Able to continue working now</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
And this is how it look after I continued that row. There's no telling where is that tiny meeting point of the two strands of yarn, is there??<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0r-H9yEFnA0/VT5CIvk2GYI/AAAAAAAAAh4/MCDmuZ4tlhI/s1600/IMG_6725.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0r-H9yEFnA0/VT5CIvk2GYI/AAAAAAAAAh4/MCDmuZ4tlhI/s640/IMG_6725.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Impossible to trace the meeting point</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
In the close up picture, you can see the tiny knot hidden well amongst the double crochet stitches and from the other side of the blanket you can't see it at all. This, for me, is a great success and what makes this method really great, because it gives my blanket a professional look even when attaching new skeins.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2CtwZT3fcJs/VT5CLJvcK0I/AAAAAAAAAiA/VZhKKElejy0/s1600/IMG_6727.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2CtwZT3fcJs/VT5CLJvcK0I/AAAAAAAAAiA/VZhKKElejy0/s640/IMG_6727.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Can you see it?</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-By4cVSgoh5A/VT5CNvf_vwI/AAAAAAAAAiI/KYCvkXfSVtI/s1600/IMG_6729.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-By4cVSgoh5A/VT5CNvf_vwI/AAAAAAAAAiI/KYCvkXfSVtI/s640/IMG_6729.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">And from the other side?</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Hope this will help some of you the next time you'll find yourself in a problematic position to be out of yarn.<br />
I will post pictures of the finished blanket once it's done, hopefully by the end of the week.<br />
<br />
<b><i>UPDATE: In case you were wondering, these method works great also for thicker yarn. Used the same method on another blanket I'm crocheting now and it was as easy as pie. See for yourself (More on this blanket - on another post):</i></b><br />

Today I finished my second crochet pouch, and I LOVE it!!<br />
The first cosmetics pouch I did was <a href="http://shimradesigns.blogspot.co.il/2015/03/done-crochet-cosmetic-bag-with-romantic.html" target="_blank">the turqoise pouch</a>. This second one is made with black cotton yarn with a metallic string which makes it very festive and suitable for every occasion.<br />

The flower motif is made using a cream cotton yarn with the same metallic string, to match the body of the pouch. It is sewed to the back of the pouch about third way down.<br />

<br />
<div>
This pouch is also very customable, which means that it can be crocheted using any type and color of yarn. Off course that if you'll use different types of yarn the dimensions can change accordingly.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I'm very pleased with the result and hope to make more like it.<br />

It's been a little while since my last post and I have a good excuse. We've been away on a family vacation around USA for the last three weeks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We had a lot of fun visiting different locations and experiencing different things. The time we spent away together really united us as a family, which is only natural after being with each other 24/7 all this time.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Between visiting Disney World, going up to the mountains and sepending a little time in NYC, I managed to pop into Joe-Ann and buy some crafty things for my ongoing activities. Hope to start using those soon and posting all about it.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Orange Stripes Crochet Bag</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
A few days ago I finished another crochet bag. This one is smaller than the <a href="http://shimradesigns.blogspot.co.il/2015/03/done-vasarely-crochet-bag.html" target="_blank">Vasarely bag</a> I did awhile back. First, because of the colors. This bag is striped in orange and stone colored yarn. I chose those colors because I wanted to make a very happy and sunny kind of bag.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TaF_g6hQMG8/VQp5hpQFKRI/AAAAAAAAAcY/t8jJ2Zl2cMY/s1600/IMG_6150.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TaF_g6hQMG8/VQp5hpQFKRI/AAAAAAAAAcY/t8jJ2Zl2cMY/s640/IMG_6150.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Orange Crochet Bag</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I wasn't sure on what kind of strap would be best for the bag (I always have this problem...). My original design involved crocheting a strap, but I wanted to add a little spark to it. That's why I <br />
eventually decided to go with gold plated chain that complements the orange nicely. The chain is detachable.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uS8rGalnx_I/VQp5ey25LwI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/vdb6EAZTIQE/s1600/IMG_6165.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uS8rGalnx_I/VQp5ey25LwI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/vdb6EAZTIQE/s640/IMG_6165.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Fully lined with 100% cotton fabric in matching colors</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The bag is fully lined with a 100% cotton fabric in a nice pattern of sweet little animals in orange, green and brown.<br />
<br />
I've also attached a magnetic clasp to keep the content secured. I searched the web for guidance on how to install a magnetic clasp and found some <a href="http://www.made-by-rae.com/2011/02/tutorial-by-rae-magnetic-snap/" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://sewingdaisies.com.au/2010/09/tutorial-magnetic-snaps/" target="_blank">here</a>, but since I needed to attach the clasp to a crochet bag I ended up <a href="http://crochetology.net/tag/crochet-colour-work/" target="_blank">here</a> and used her genius idea to make crochet circles as a base for the clasp.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a0cIGmOb9W0/VQrakiT20bI/AAAAAAAAAdo/u8SSCCzTCdw/s1600/IMG_6147.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a0cIGmOb9W0/VQrakiT20bI/AAAAAAAAAdo/u8SSCCzTCdw/s640/IMG_6147.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Magnetic clasp attched using crochet circle base</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The bag is decorated with a pin of a flower made from three crochet circles in red, yellow and white and it adds a nice touch of color and breaks the orange a little without completely escaping out of the color scheme.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A flower pin in red, yellow and white to complement the color scheme</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-644J-b3tkC8/VQp5o7qWUII/AAAAAAAAAcw/aX3muo95U5g/s1600/IMG_6162.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-644J-b3tkC8/VQp5o7qWUII/AAAAAAAAAcw/aX3muo95U5g/s640/IMG_6162.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Looks cute even without the flower pin</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I really enjoyed working on this bag. It can be used as an everyday bag or an evening bag, and the gold chain gives it a real stylish look.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The bag is 20 cm (8") wide, 15 cm (6") high so it's a real comfortable size bag, and the strap length is 130 cm (51") which is perfect for a cross body kind of bag.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You can find it in <a href="http://shimradesigns.etsy.com/" target="_blank">my shop</a>, as long as other bags and goods.</div>
